‘Mr. Mayor’ Renewed for Second Season on NBC

Mr. Mayor is staying in office.

NBC has renewed the Ted Danson-led comedy for a second season, following decent ratings for its first run. The series, which also stars Holly Hunter, Vella Lovell, Mike Cabellon, Kyla Kenedy and Bobby Moynihan, comes from creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock and Universal Television.

“Having Ted Danson and Holly Hunter leading this brilliant ensemble is a dream,” said Lisa Katz, president scripted content at NBCUniversal Entertainment and Streaming. “A huge thank you to Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and our talented cast and crew for an incredible first season. We are excited for more hilarity in season two.”

Mr. Mayor is currently NBC’s second highest-rated comedy of the season (behind Young Rock). It averaged a 0.8 rating in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49 and 4.46 million viewers with a week of delayed viewing. The network says that in the two-plus months since it debuted, the show’s first episode has grown to a 3.7 in the key demo and 16 million viewers across all platforms.

“We’ve loved our collaboration with NBC on the first season of Mr. Mayor and are excited to continue working with our fantastic cast, led by the incomparable Ted Danson and Holly Hunter,” said Universal TV president Erin Underhill. “We can’t wait to see what Tina Fey, Robert Carlock and our talented producing team have in store for Mayor Bremer and his rag-tag team of civil servants.”

Mr. Mayor is the first of NBC’s rookie shows to earn a spot in the network’s 2021-22 lineup. It joins the final season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, all three members of the Chicago franchise and veteran dramas The Blacklist, Law & Order: SVU, New Amsterdam and This Is Us.

Universal TV produces the series with Fey’s Little Stranger, Carlock’s Bevel Gears and 3 Arts Entertainment. Fey, Carlock, Jeff Richmond and David Miner executive produce, and Eric Gurian is co-EP.
